North Tyneside Carer Emergency Plan Service Launched

We have welcome news to share, the council has launched a service to help the carer and cared for in the event of the carer having an emergency.

Many carers understandably worry about what would happen to the person they care for if the carer had an accident or sudden illness

To receive this service all you need to do is complete this form to provide your details and your cared for's needs. If something happens to you the council can coordinate the support for the person you care for. This could involve contacting a family member or providing professional support for the person you care for.

The council will send you a card to keep on your person. In the event of an accident an emergency worker can see the card’s details and inform the council.

To set up the service either fill in the form online here or ring 0330 333 7475 or email

care.call@northtyneside.gov.uk and the council can send you a paper copy of the form to fill in.

New Relaxed Rules for Visitors to Northumbria Hospitals

With immediate effect, Northumbria NHS Hospitals are introducing new rules which mean visitors no longer need to book appointments and visiting is now daily between 10 am to 8 pm at all their hospitals. This includes mealtimes, where a family member can support their loved one if they wish to.

On wards two visitors can attend at the same time and the visitors can change.  More visitors can be accommodated if needed.

They are encouraging visitors to speak to the ward about the best time to visit.

For outpatients, one visitor or person accompanying the patient is still requested.

More detailed information is available here.

Making North Tyneside a better place for the Over 50’s

Age should not be a barrier to living well but sometimes the needs of older people are not supported or recognised. That is why Age UK and Healthwatch want to make North Tyneside an age friendly borough and to help us get there they are asking people to fill in their survey so your views can steer future plans.

You can get involved by completing the online survey here or contacting Healthwatch on 0191 263 5321 or email info@hwnt.co.uk for a paper copy and freepost envelope to be posted to you.

Carers Week - A look at a great week

Carers Week (June 10 to June 16 2024) put carers on the map in our little bit of the world. From fun activities like the tour round St. Mary’s Lighthouse to more serious events like the Caring for Carers Conference, we think the week spread the message that carers are one of the vital pillars that hold up society and deserve much more.

The Carers’ Centre wants to thank everyone who made it so memorable. Thank you to the carers to whom this week is dedicated, you are the stars. Thank you to the volunteers and donors who gave their time and resources. And thank you to the workers who came to the Caring for Carers Conference to improve the lives of carers.

A big round of applause goes to

·  @fishnettavern owners Chris and Callum and his staff for putting on the delicious food, along with the singer Dean for entertaining us.

·  We are grateful to Mike from the Lowlights Heritage Centre for the great talk on local people.

·  Sam the Senior Education Officer from North Tyneside Council for the brilliant tour of St Mary’s lighthouse and island.
